These survivors are found in the extra missions Chuck gets, called scoops. One thing to always remember is there can only be 8 active survivors in Fortune City at one time. Save Pain Killers for boss battles and use Quickstep whenever you want. The latter allows Chuck to run a lot faster, making moving from place to place a lot quicker. The former not only restores a full 6 bars of health but reduces the damage Chuck takes by half.
Two mixed drinks, Pain Killer and Quickstep are suggested throughout these playthroughs. Whenever possible though, save your OJ and eat some other random food you might stumble upon and save the OJ for serious situations. 
My food of choice is Orange Juice (OJ) which heals 4 bars at a time.
I always suggest carrying around a mix of weapons and food. Blambow is good for clearing out big crowds of zombies quickly. The Knife Gloves are the best weapon for most bosses and they are good for single zombie kills and small zombie groups. It has a quick attack and deals some good damage. 
The Spiked Bat is good for crowds with its main attack.
The Knife Gloves, Spiked Bat and Blambow are some of the best combo weapons to have with Chuck at all times. This is important to know as it takes time to travel so make sure you are in the correct place at the right time. They will have a bar below them that gives an idea behind the time limit of each task. A list of the current cases and extra missions will be displayed on the right hand side of the screen. Playing Through the DLC (DR2 Case 0) is a great place to start if your new to the Dead Rising games or want the extra bonus of five levels before tackling Fortune City.
